Super Over rules in T20 cricket

Many cricket lovers witnessed a tied match yesterday in IPL tournament. However, the Sunrisers who scored more runs than RCB in the super over were the winners.

But what would have happened if Chris Gayle hit a six in the last ball of the super over he faced? The scores would have tied in the super over too, but RCB would have been the winners !!!

Before the start of a super over, each team needs to nominate 3 batsmen and a bowler. And the team which plays second in the tied match will play first in the super over. If any two out of three batsmen are out, that'e end of innings for that team.

In case if the scores in the super overs are also equal, the winner is declared based on the highest number of sixes scored by the team. If the sixes hit by both the teams are equal, the team which has scored most boundaries will be the winner.

    Today's Matches

    Match no : 8
Rajasthan Royals vs Kolkata Knight Riders @ 8:00 PM
    Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur

    • One more match, one more last over suspense drama, but RCB bowler Vinay Kumar could not restrict Sunrisers from scoring 130 which resulted the match being a tie and the winner had to be decided through super over. The two massive sixes by Cameron White and the splendid super duper over by Dale Steyn helped Sunrisers Hyderabad to record their successive second win of the tournament.
    • Man of the match was undoubtedly 19 year old youngster, Hanuma Vihari for his unbeaten 44 runs and the match winning wicket of Chris Gayle. This Hyderabad boy, a member of Indian team which won the ICC Under 19 world cup in 2012 took the wicket of Chris Gayle in the very first ball of the over he bowled in the match.
    • This is the third instance a match becoming a tie in IPL tournament. The match between RR & KKR in 2009 and KIXP & CSK in 2010 resulted in a tie earlier.

Players above 40 years in Indian Premier League - 2013

T20 cricket is generally termed as the game of youngsters but the veteran players are also not much behind in showcasing their cricketing skills. Players like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid are still the game changers of this shorter version of game.

Sachin Tendulkar is going to complete his 40th Birthday on 24th of this month. ( DOB : 24-Apr-1973).

But  in this edition of IPL, there are 5 more players who are senior to Sachin Tendulkar and are already crossed 40. !!!

Muttiah Muralidharan, ace spinner of Royal Challengers Bangalore and Adam Gilchirst, Wicketkeeper cum Skipper of Kings IX Punjab are both 41 years old.

And interestingly all the other three players above 40 are representing Rajasthan Royals in this edition of IPL.

Skipper Rahul Dravid just celebrated his 40th birthday on 11th of January this year. Australian Spinner Brad Hogg is 42 years old and is the oldest cricketer of this season.

Hold on, there is one more Indian player above 40 in this IPL edition whose name is probably unheard by many. 42 years old Pravin Tambe who was selected for the Mumbai team this year for the Vijay Hazare Trophy was a surprising inclusion in the Royal Challengers team of the season.
